I’ve been thinking a lot about how Bessie’s murder wasn’t just a tragedy for her family but also for the whole Medina community. It's so hard to process when something like this hits close to home, involving people who've lived in your neighborhood. Can you imagine the shockwaves this sent through the town back in 1949? Her friends and neighbors must've been absolutely stunned to hear what happened. This is a stark reminder of how important it is to be aware of what's happening with the people around us. It’s easy to say in hindsight, but maybe, just maybe, there could have been some signs that Carl needed help before things got to this point. Mental health issues can be hard to spot and even harder to address, especially back then. I hope the community learned something from this that helps prevent future tragedies. Bessie deserved so much better, and my heart goes out to anyone who knew her.
