I recently came across a smaller, unsettling detail from the LIRR massacre that I can't get out of my mind. In the chaos of that night, I read that some passengers initially mistook the gunshots for firecrackers. Imagine the gut-wrenching moment when reality hit them, and they realized it was far more sinister. James Gorycki and the others never had a chance to understand what was happening. It's a chilling reminder of how quickly a normal day can spiral into unthinkable tragedy. My heart goes out to James's family, friends, and everyone involved. I hope they have found some peace over the years, though I know the pain never truly fades.
