A holiday weekend gathering on Memorial Day 2014 in Central Islip, New York, ended in deadly violence when 31-year-old Nathaniel Shawn Winfield was shot at a house party on Rosewood Street. Reports say a group of uninvited people arrived, were asked to leave, and a confrontation followed. Winfield reportedly intervened as the dispute escalated and was struck by at least one gunshot. He was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

A 16-year-old male was also injured during the fight; those injuries were reported as not life-threatening. Investigators looked into possible gang connections for the uninvited group, though police did not definitively label the shooting gang-related at the time. Appeals for public help were made, and initial reports indicated no arrests in the fatal shooting.

Winfield was remembered as a husband and father of five. The case remains an unresolved homicide; does anyone have information about that Memorial Day gathering or the people who arrived uninvited?
