In the early hours of a January morning in 2016, gunfire in a North Bay Shore neighborhood ended the life of 44-year-old Marcelo Argueta Chicas. Responding to a gunshot detection alert, Suffolk County police found him with a single gunshot wound; emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Marcelo lived in the nearby hamlet of Bay Shore.
Authorities folded the case into a broader effort to address persistent gang violence in the region, with investigators paying particular attention to MS-13 because of the group’s role in numerous local murders and violent incidents. The investigation into Marcelo’s killing remains open; despite other arrests and prosecutions of MS-13 members for separate crimes, no one has been publicly identified or arrested in connection with his death.
If anyone knew Marcelo, his movements that night, or has information relevant to the investigation, please share what is known with the Suffolk County police.
