It breaks my heart to read about what happened to Joey Pabon. I wanted to take a moment to talk about the mental health crisis that seems to be affecting law enforcement officers, especially considering the number of NYPD suicides in 2019 alone. It's so crucial that we don't just focus on the statistics but remember that each number is a person with family, friends, and loved ones left behind to pick up the pieces. Joey's story really drives home the fact that mental health resources are desperately needed for officers both on duty and retired. They go through so much, often without any outlet or support, and it's heartbreaking that for Joey and others like him, it got to a point where they saw no other way out. I can't help but feel a deep sadness for his family who, I can only imagine, are struggling to come to terms with this. This is a plea to anyone in a position to make changes – let's support mental health initiatives for those who serve and protect us, so these tragedies become less of a common headline. My thoughts are with Maria and their children, as they navigate a loss that no one should have to endure.
