Does anyone else find it interesting that Mitchell stopped writing around 1973? I did a little digging, and it turns out that Nome in the early '70s was experiencing some economic changes. The pipeline project was bringing people and money to parts of Alaska, but it also caused quite a bit of disruption in local communities. I'm wondering if Mitchell might have gotten involved with something related to that or if the shifts in the local economy had an impact on him. Maybe he took a job elsewhere and couldn’t stay in touch as easily? Just thinking out loud here. Would love to know if anyone has more insights into what Nome or Fairbanks were like during that time.
Has anyone looked into Mitchell's connections or activities in Fairbanks, where he might have spent some time? Nome and Fairbanks are quite a distance apart, and I'm wondering if he had any friends or acquaintances there who might shed light on his life during that period. Maybe he moved there for work and could potentially have some co-workers or former neighbors who might remember him. Sometimes people can recall small, seemingly insignificant details that can really help in piecing together someone’s movements.
