I was thinking today about how close-knit the community in Troy was, especially around that time with the block party and all. It just makes me wonder how things have changed since that night. It must be incredibly tough for everyone who knew and loved Cesar and Khalid to regain a sense of normalcy with such a heavy weight clouding the neighborhood. I can’t imagine walking down those streets, knowing something so terrible happened. The fact that it occurred right after a joyful event like a neighborhood block party makes it even more tragic. It’s as if the happiness was almost immediately stolen. I hope the community can find strength in one another, and that someone who knows even the smallest detail can find the courage to come forward. Remembering how active we used to be at block parties should remind everyone how vital it is to protect those moments by standing against violence. Keeping Cesar, Khalid, and the entire Troy community in my thoughts.

Has anyone else been following the case of Cesar Soriano and Khalid Monroe in Troy, NY? I've been thinking a lot about the community's reaction since the shooting near Glen Avenue and 7th on August 28, 2020. It's clear that this has shaken up a lot of people around there. I read that the shooting happened right after a neighborhood block party—how terrifying to think that something so tragic happened so close to what should've been a safe, joyful event for everyone. It makes me wonder about the atmosphere during the event and if anyone noticed something was off. It's frustrating seeing that no arrests have been made yet. It's hard imagining how their families must feel, not only dealing with the loss but also the uncertainty of not knowing who is responsible. I'm glad the Troy Police Department seems dedicated to solving this, but it's truly a reminder that we need better strategies to address gun violence in our communities. I hope all of us who can help come forward with anything that may make a difference in solving this case—no matter how small it may seem.
