I recently came across an article about Andre Mackneil's last moments, and it truly struck a chord with me. The fact that he was at Tops Markets to pick up a birthday cake for his little boy makes this tragedy even more gut-wrenching. Andre didn't deserve this, and neither did the other victims. What breaks my heart even more is thinking about his family trying to celebrate his son's birthday while knowing what happened; it’s unimaginable. I hope they have felt the love and support from the community. It’s been inspiring to see how people have rallied around the families affected by this horrific event—coming together for vigils and discussions is a powerful way to remember Andre and ensure that love will always outweigh hate. Sending all my thoughts and prayers to his family and reminding everyone that we must keep fighting against the type of hate that led to this senseless act.

I'm still reeling from the tragedy that took Andre Mackneil and nine other innocent lives. Every time I hear about someone else's loved one who was lost that day, it just feels like a weight in my chest. I can't even imagine having to explain to his son that his dad won't be there to celebrate birthdays anymore. One thing that really caught my attention was how Andre was in that store picking up a cake for his little boy. It feels so painfully ordinary, yet poignant, and it's a reminder of how such a simple act can suddenly become a scene of pure horror. I hope there is some comfort in the community for Andre’s family, especially his son, who will carry this impact for life. The conversations around hate crimes and racial violence have become even more urgent to so many of us since this horrific event. It's crucial that we learn from these tragedies and continue pushing for change. Andre, and all the others, deserved so much more from this world. I'm hoping we can honor them by confronting the hate that led to this.
