I keep thinking about John Edwards and how senseless this act of violence was. What gets me every time is how he was just sitting in his favorite blue chair, a place where he must have felt so comfortable and secure, surrounded by friends and neighbors on what should have been a joyful evening. It's devastating to think about how quickly life can change. Also, my heart goes out to his best friend, Cesar Lebron. I can't imagine the trauma of losing your closest friend in such a sudden and violent way, especially while celebrating a national holiday meant for joy and unity. The thought that this could happen to anyone, anywhere, really hits home. It's crucial that we push for change and do whatever we can as a community to support each other and prevent more tragedies like this one. If anyone knows more or saw something that night, please come forward to help the investigation. John's family and friends deserve justice and peace.
I haven't been able to stop thinking about how John Edwards' favorite chair is now just empty. It's haunting to imagine that a place he found comfort and joy in could be the site of such tragedy. By all accounts, he was the kind of neighbor we all wish we had—kind, always ready with a smile, and deeply invested in the community. It's absolutely gut-wrenching that a simple decision to sit outside on a summer night could lead to such a devastating outcome. So many families are left fearing for their safety, and it makes you wonder—how did we get here, and how do we fix it? We owe it to John and every other innocent victim to demand change.
