I've been following the case of Damien White and Eyon Johnson and I'm struck by how much Damien's move from Jamaica to New York with his family resonates with so many who seek better opportunities. It's so tragic that his journey, which likely brought countless challenges and triumphs over the years, ended in senseless violence. His story just highlights the randomness and unpredictability of life, especially for those facing daily struggles to create a new life in a busy city like Brooklyn. Damien wasn't someone with a criminal background; he was a family man, hardworking and trying to make a living just like so many others. It makes me think about all the families that come with dreams and aspirations, only to be met with violence in a city that's supposed to be their sanctuary. My heart goes out to his loved ones and especially his children, who now have to navigate the world without him. It's painful to see such bright futures stolen away by gun violence, and I hope this case brings about changes to make the community safer for everyone.

I've been thinking about the number of shell casings found at the Miguel’s West Indian Restaurant. It’s so chilling. It speaks to the premeditated nature of the attack and the intent to harm these men. I can’t even begin to imagine the fear Damien White and Eyon Johnson faced in those moments. My heart goes out to their families and friends dealing with these unbearable losses. It’s infuriating that Damien, known for his kindness and taken away so needlessly, leaves behind five children. I hope justice will be served and this heartbreaking event sparks real change in tackling gun violence. It’s time to do more for our community and end this cycle of violence. What are everyone's thoughts on how we can push for stricter gun laws in NYC?
