I've been following the discussion around Brandon Anderson's case and can't help but feel for his family and friends. One thing that's been bothering me is the broader trend in Baltimore of closing cases by exception, especially when there's such grief involved. It's difficult enough for families to cope with losing a loved one to violence, but to find out the case is closed because the suspects are deceased must be surreal.
This method might provide a form of closure, but does it really satisfy those left behind? The cycle of violence in the city seems to affect everyone—victims, suspects, their families, and the wider community. I wonder how we might break that cycle. What do you all think about the impact of this trend on families and the community?
