I’ve been following this case since it happened, and something that’s been on my mind a lot is the community impact, particularly at Thomas Stone High School. From what I gather, Lashelle was a bright student and well-loved among her peers and teachers. I can’t even begin to imagine what her classmates and friends are going through right now. A school, especially during those high school years, is a big part of life. For the students who shared classes or even brief moments with Lashelle, this must be incredibly difficult to process. The school environment is supposed to be a safe haven, and this tragedy has undeniably shaken that sense of security. It’s so important they all have the support they need right now. I hope the school is providing counselors and resources for the students to help them cope. Losing a friend or classmate is unimaginably tough, especially when paired with the shocking circumstances of such a loss. My thoughts go out to all those who knew Laila and Lashelle, and to the educators trying to support their students through such a trying time.

I've been following the case of the Goodwin family in Waldorf, and something that just breaks my spirit is thinking about Lashelle and her promising future. From everything I've read, she was an honor student at Thomas Stone High School, involved in extracurriculars, and seemed to have such a bright path ahead of her. It's devastating to see how her life story was so abruptly cut short. My heart goes out to her friends and classmates who must be struggling to make sense of this tragedy. I keep wondering what signs we might have missed or how we can develop better systems to support families before they reach such a crisis point. The community must be reeling from such an incomprehensible loss.
