I've been following Leonard Shelley's case closely and it strikes me how the ripple effects of gang violence can devastate entire communities. The fact that his life was ended so brutally in what seems to have been just another "job" for gang members is deeply unsettling. It’s alarming how young people like Darran Malik Butler get so deeply involved in this lifestyle that murder becomes just another task for them. I won’t pretend to understand what the Shelley's family is going through, but my thoughts are with them and everyone affected by this senseless act. It’s infuriating that even after Butler's sentencing, the cycle of violence in areas like Southwest Baltimore continues. I wonder, though, what more can be done to prevent other young people from getting involved with gangs like the NFL in the first place? More community outreach, perhaps? I'd love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this. Stay safe out there.
