I've been following Deras Washington's case for a while, and something that's been on my mind is the issue of gun possession charges, like the one Kyree Gregory initially faced. It's so unsettling to think that he was charged for illegally possessing a firearm but then was released on his own recognizance. I can't imagine the anguish that Deras's friends and family went through knowing that someone involved in his death was walking free, even for a short time. It's crucial for the system to re-evaluate how it handles such serious charges, especially when they could foreshadow violent crime. The pain Deras’s family must feel is unimaginable, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this senseless tragedy. Does anybody know if there’s been talk about changes in policy or law because of cases like this?

Has anyone else been thinking about the issue of gun possession in this case? I keep going back to the fact that Kyree Gregory was released on his own recognizance after being charged with illegal possession of a gun before he was formally charged with Deras Washington's murder. It’s so troubling to me. How did this slip through? It makes me wonder about the gaps in our system and how they can sometimes overlook crucial red flags. My heart goes out to Deras's family and friends—they deserved justice sooner. I hope this case sparks some serious discussions about reforming how we handle illegal weapon charges. What do you all think?
