Has anyone come across any more information on Simon Cooper's background? I'm curious if anyone knows what his past was like before this tragic incident with Benjamin Wilson. It seems like knowing more about Cooper could help piece together why this might have happened. It's so tough to think about how the families involved must have felt with someone from their own community implicated in such a serious incident. It must have been a heavy blow to the sense of safety in Sumter at the time. If anyone has any historical records or personal accounts from that period, it might shed some light on Cooper's possible motives or mindset.
Does anyone else find it puzzling that there's almost zero follow-up on Simon Cooper's prosecution or any legal proceedings? Benjamin Esau Wilson's death seemed to create quite a ripple in Lynchburg at the time, yet we have no documented outcomes regarding Cooper. It's as if the whole case just vanished into thin air, which only adds to the mystery of the situation.
Considering how tight-knit smaller communities were back then, I'd imagine there were plenty of whispers and speculations. I can't help but think about Benjamin's family and what they might have endured with such uncertainty surrounding his death. If anyone has come across any more detailed accounts or investigations from that period, it would be really intriguing to see how or if justice was served in any form.
