I've been digging into old cases and I stumbled upon the tragic deaths of Deputy U.S. Marshals Christopher and William Corbin in 1909. It got me thinking about the tough hand that fate can sometimes deal. Christopher left behind an expectant wife and a daughter; his son was born just a couple of months after the incident. I can't even imagine the strength his wife must have had to muster, facing such a loss while pregnant and with a young child to care for.
The suspect's family being involved in the shooting is such a chilling detail. It raises so many questions about what drives people to such drastic actions. But what's also striking is that the suspect was sentenced to 20 years in prison, which feels inadequate for two lives lost. This must have been difficult for the Corbin family to accept. I really wish we had more ways of getting a sense of justice for victims and their loved ones back then. Thoughts?
