I’ve been following the case of Kadeem Chambers, and my heart goes out to his family and friends dealing with this unimaginable tragedy. It’s so troubling to think about the young man who lost his life so senselessly during what should have been just a routine drive. What’s been really unsettling to me is hearing about the legal twists and turns in this case. After Heyward was found guilty, I can only imagine the relief Kadeem’s family felt, hoping for some closure. But then, the appeal with those issues about the photo lineup and the domestic violence testimony brought everything back to square one. It just opens up so many questions about how evidence is handled in these trials and the fine line judges and lawyers walk trying to be fair to both sides. I just hope that, no matter how long this takes, Kadeem’s family gets the justice they’ve been waiting for, and that other families don’t have to experience the same drawn-out ordeal. They deserve peace as much as anyone.
