I've been following the details of Sierra Landry's case closely, and one thing that stuck out to me is the glaring gap in domestic violence protections for young people in South Carolina at the time. It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that minors couldn't seek protection unless they were married or had a child with their abuser. Sierra’s tragic story is a sobering reminder of how urgent and necessary these changes are. Her family's advocacy for "Sierra's Law" is truly inspiring, showing incredible strength during such an unimaginable time. I think about all the other young people who might feel trapped in similar situations now, and it's crucial that we support these legal reforms. It won't undo the pain, but it could save lives in the future. My heart goes out to Sierra’s family and friends as they work tirelessly to create positive change.
