I've been following the case of Ridge Smith, or as his friends knew him, "Trixz," ever since it happened. Something that's been on my mind a lot is the role of the community in supporting Ridge's family during such an unimaginable time. From what I've read, it seems like there was an incredible outpouring of support from the people of North Charleston. Friends, family, and even folks who didn’t know Ridge personally came together to offer condolences and help. It’s comforting to see that kind of community spirit, especially when dealing with such a tragic loss. Ridge clearly touched so many lives — it's evident in how people talk about him and how they've come together in efforts to support his loved ones. Anyone else have thoughts on the power of community in this case or similar ones?
Has anyone else been thinking about the role social media played in Ridge Smith's case? I came across a memorial page created by Ridge's friends soon after his passing, and it's both touching and eerie. It sheds light on who he was—his vibrant personality, the joy he brought to people around him, and how deeply he was loved. But it also made me wonder how social media affected the investigation. It must be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it helps keep the public engaged and helps remember the victim's humanity beyond just being "a case." On the other hand, I can’t imagine the pressure it puts on law enforcement and even the risk of misinformation spreading. How do you think communities can best use social media in such sensitive situations? It’s heartbreaking to see a space meant for connection become complicated in times of grief and justice-seeking. Ridge deserved to be remembered for who he was, not just how he died. It's so important that we support his family and friends during these times.
