Did anyone else here know about Rev. Simmons’ deep commitment to veterans in his community? I came across an article mentioning his work with local veteran groups, and it just struck me. Despite all he must have gone through as a Vietnam War vet himself, he was so dedicated to giving back, organizing events, and offering support to others who had served. It’s absolutely awe-inspiring how he took those difficult experiences and used them to connect and uplift others. It makes this senseless tragedy hit even harder knowing he was taken from a community that still needed him. It’s so important to keep talking about his contributions and making sure his legacy of service and compassion lives on. Anyone else have stories or links to share about his work with veterans?

I've been thinking a lot about Reverend Daniel Lee Simmons Sr. and the incredible life he lived before that terrible night at Mother Emanuel. Despite the tremendous sorrow of losing him, I've been inspired learning about his life and the impact he had on so many people. Serving as a pastor for so many decades and being a Vietnam veteran with a Purple Heart... it's truly commendable. It’s heartening to see how long he dedicated his life to his faith and community, even after retiring. His story is a poignant reminder of the goodness in people, and how one person can touch countless lives through empathy, dedication, and service. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to his family and everyone else touched by this tragedy.
