Reading about the tragic loss of Ghazia Abdul Duckett, along with Frankie Johnson, Jr., and Lamekia Moasia Warren, has been really weighing on my mind. Such a senseless act of violence that claimed the lives of three individuals, each with their own story and dreams.
One aspect that strikes me is the role of community in the aftermath of such tragedies. I can't help but think about how these events deeply scar communities like Varnville. The fear and grief they must have felt, knowing such violence occurred in their own backyard, involving people they might have known or interacted with at some point. It makes you appreciate the work of those in law enforcement and the justice system even more, knowing they were so dedicated to bringing the culprits to justice.
I also find myself thinking a lot about Marely Adonis Breland, Ghazia's young son. Growing up without his father, it's so important that the love surrounding him fills some of that void. If there's any small silver lining, it's in seeing how the community can come together to support victims' families, offer love, and foster resilience. My heart goes out to everyone affected, and I hope they find continued strength and healing through their collective support and memories of Ghazia, Frankie, and Lamekia.
