I’ve been thinking a lot about the vigil that was held for Shirley Jean Jones and her grandsons, Steven and Johntavier. It's so moving to see a community come together like that to remember those who have been lost. Shirley was spoken of so highly—they really captured how much she meant to everyone around her, and how her kindness made such a difference. Keeping her and the boys in our thoughts seems like the least we can do, but I hope it’s some comfort to the family, knowing they’re not alone in this heartache. It’s a brutal reminder of how fragile life is and, honestly, a call for all of us to push harder for change in our own communities. Anyone else who was there want to share how it impacted you? ?️?️?️
I’ve been following this case closely and can’t stop thinking about the two teenagers, Ta’Zaria Idejah Curry and Daijeanne Lee Hamilton, who were charged as accessories after the fact. It must be incredibly distressing for their families to see them in this situation, especially given the serious nature of their charges. While nothing can excuse what happened, it’s important to remember that they are young and may have been caught up in something larger than they realized. I hope they have access to guidance and support, and that justice is served in a way that reflects their individual involvement. This tragedy has multiple layers, and my heart aches for all the families affected, including Shirley Jean Jones’ loved ones.
