Hey everyone,
I just can't stop thinking about Brandon Edinger’s case. I came across a podcast recently that discussed how the legal system handles cases involving mental health, and it brought up a lot of questions for me. I understand that mental health can be complex, but I struggle with how it played out here.
I can't imagine the pain Brandon’s family feels, especially with the legal outcome. It seems like such a small sentence given the gravity of losing a life. It must be so frustrating for them to see this case handled in a way that doesn't seem to deliver justice for Brandon. Mental health is important and affects so many aspects of life, but how should it weigh in when it comes to the consequences of such serious actions?
I'm curious about how others view the balance between mental health issues and accountability in cases like this. Does anyone have insights or similar cases that show how this balance has been struck differently? This has been weighing on my mind, and I'd appreciate any perspectives folks can share. Sending warmth and support to Brandon's loved ones.
Thanks for reading.

You are right…. How does being in seventh grade in a gated community?…… not the ghetto, etc….

someone was gonna break in? I really question that and I wish they would’ve let them speak before us why we had to speak first….. I would have totally said that’s literally all you can come up with for the reason why he did what he did? If you had that much.PTSD EVERY ROOMMATE WOULD Have a key in the door be locked at all times I was a stupidest reason I could not even fathom?

what does that have anything to do with him shooting my son in the face watching him in recording in the kindergarten police report was on the porch for 10 minutes and then waiting for him when forensic comes back walking in the door being shot in the face because my son was very good at jujitsu, MMA…

and he could and has put him on his behind before he even knew what had happened to him.

so, he knew he had to catch offguard….

especially evidence I found out after the pledeal later…

he was good. He was what this country needed. I had him at 15 years old. My husband was 17 years old and we raised him. He was an amazing person . Amazing son. Amazing brother. And he had saved so many lives that made new lives…

I really wanna talk to the neighbor above that called 911 and heard what Bo a.k.a. Jenkins had said to Brandon, upset him to cool down he walks away neeed him to walk out the door…

my sons life DID NOT MATTER AT ALL. solicitor telling us (true victims myself, father (my husband),his sister (our daughter) …. Judge is god… she picks 3 cases a year… I guess the $$$ and WIN (state victim?? and do not go to trial….. ???!

so backwards, it truly is. Because you have a fancy trust fund, fancy lawyer (mom went around making sure I couldn’t get one…but still had everything through him. , Autopsy, every kindergarten police report, etc. There is no way with a bullet in his head the left side of his face blown off that EMS keep him alive. Five minutes away, died in a stretcher on the side of ER. My friend is retired ems and they do not have anything to keep you alive that long on ambulance….. The lawyer even said this is like the Murdoch why? Why would he? Wanting to make sure they get the plea deal before the murdock trial…told me to throw me off game with emotions via email said he was allowed by state of sc, “if he leaves then….they will give him back the gun…the weapon back in his hands that threatened others and took my sons life…. Just to say she “will revoke it”,,,,,, at plea deal… solicitor said,

I believe, they were going to be more lenient as well prior to the trial…

his fancy lawyer withhis head down in video (state lied. Said we didn’t want to be interviewed or record …..?

now, I KNEW that was a LIE!!?

I made SO MANY videos to get justice for Brandon. Someone besides his mother and father represent him. AND, to make known what n justifiably everything was going.

this was being told TRIAL would be years…. Turned to plea deal 8 on the later out of jail…. 3 Yrs house arrested,.,.,DONT have to work etc.. he’s gotten away with slouch..smh., that is about as far as getting away with murder as you can get. talked to the news at 6am the morning of plea deal) ) we had worn green “we will fight for you “ boxing gloves #forever21 …. We were told to leave in parking lot as we were trying to understand what just happened… people just in court room how they could not believe what they just saw and condolence….told to leave public parking lot and defendant family like royalty and we had to leave …5 min later… news called looking for us…..

from the second he shot him our lives changed FOREVER…. No sympathy for parents. Hand just as far in my son’s murder jar….all need to know eternity is what matters….from the star I took at time of death. And all that was going through my head…,he knew what this would do to us… He knew how to let me know he was okay…. and best place he’s been…. (Saying that in my head)

eternity is what matters!!!!!! Thank you for the humanity….

i tell his story to let you know i this happened to us…. It can happen to anyone.

Your words are powerful, and your love for Brandon shines through every line. I can’t imagine the depth of your pain, but please know your voice matters, and Brandon’s story matters. I’m so sorry you and your family were forced to go through this.

Has anyone else been following the case of Brandon Mitchell Edinger and feeling puzzled by the legal outcome? Reading about how the charges for Thomas Deane Jenkins were reduced from murder to involuntary manslaughter really took me by surprise. I can’t even begin to imagine what Brandon’s family is going through, especially his mother, Lisa. It’s tough to comprehend how someone could claim involuntary manslaughter when Brandon was shot at such close range.
I also understand mental health can play a huge role in one’s actions, but it’s hard to see how that justifies such a significant reduction in charges and subsequent sentence. Does anyone know if there are any upcoming appeals or possible civil suits? It seems like this decision might leave room for further legal action. My thoughts continue to be with the Edinger family as they navigate through this incredibly challenging time.
It's so upsetting to think about the toll this case has taken on both families. I've seen mental health being used as a defense in criminal cases before, but something about this one feels particularly intense. The fact that Jenkins' struggles with anxiety and PTSD were influential in reducing the charges adds a whole new layer of complexity. I can't imagine what the Edinger family must be feeling, thinking that Brandon's life was worth a minimal sentence. On the other side, though, Jenkins' family must be grappling with their own fears and feelings of guilt. It's a stark reminder of how our legal system has to balance factors like mental health and responsibility, but I'm left wondering how such a delicate balance can truly be achieved. Anyone else have thoughts on how the legal system deals with cases involving mental health, or is this situation unique?

Thank you. I replied to the first above. I wish that they would’ve talked first and not us. I would’ve really questioned the fact being in a gated community and seventh grade not the ghetto afraid someone was going to come in and he had PTSD. I was the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard, besides the fact that you can literally get away with murder. Corrupt. Helping.. every roommate would have a key and the door would be constantly locked….. it was a joke. My son‘s life was less than dogs.
