I’ve been following the case of Ivan Perry and the others, and it just keeps weighing on my heart. I can’t stop thinking about how many lives were changed forever that night. One thing that’s been bugging me is the role of community support—or lack thereof. It feels like these tragedies just keep happening, but little changes. What can we do as a community to ensure that kids have a safe space to voice their conflicts before situations escalate to violence? There have to be ways we can step in early, create more open lines of communication, or provide resources for teenagers. I wish I had the answers, but I hope this conversation can spark some ideas. My deepest sympathies go out to the families of Ivan, Cameron, and Willie. They deserve justice and more importantly, they deserve peace. If anyone here has connections to programs making a difference in young people’s lives, please share. It might not seem like much, but sometimes just one good idea can create a ripple effect.
