I’ve been thinking a lot about the neighbor who called 911 on the night Martiz Williams was killed. It must have been such a terrifying and surreal experience to hear gunshots and then see the horrible aftermath right outside. My heart goes out to them too—they might not have known Martiz personally, but witnessing something so tragic must take a toll. I hope they have a strong support system to lean on and can connect with others in the community who are grieving. It’s apparent that this incident has rippled through the neighborhood, and it’s poignant to see everyone coming together to support not only Martiz's family but each other as well. I'm constantly reminded how these events affect more lives than we initially consider. It's imperative to hold onto the small acts of kindness and solidarity in such times.
