I've been reading about the tragic events in Saint Louis the night Shakiyla Young and Ce’Onta Cretter were killed, and my heart goes out to their families. I want to focus on the ripple effect that back-toback nights of violence like this one had on the community. From friends who live in the area, I've heard that people were really on edge, afraid to leave their homes even for basic necessities. Schools and local businesses were directly impacted too, with some even closing early or shutting down entirely out of fear. It's deeply saddening to think that these violent acts don't just end with the victims—entire communities are living in anxiety, essentially being held hostage by violence. Community programs are trying to step up and support those affected, but the resources aren't always enough. I hope that, in time, more initiatives and stronger community engagement can turn the tide and make places like north Saint Louis feel safe again. Has anyone else heard about community-led efforts or programs that aim to combat this ongoing issue?
