Has anyone else noticed how quiet the neighborhood gets around the anniversary of Darnell Smith's death? It's been over eight years, but the memory of what happened seems to linger strongly. I was just talking to some folks who remember him and the vibrant energy he brought to Florissant. It's tough to grapple with the idea that such a promising life was cut short so suddenly and senselessly. From what I’ve heard, there was a lot of frustration about the lack of clear evidence, and as much as we all wish for leads to come forward, it’s easy to understand why some people might be scared. The community really came together to hold vigils and support the Smith family, but the pain is still there. I think what never fails to amaze me is the perseverance of Darnell's family. They are consistently pushing for justice and keeping his memory alive. If any good can come out of this, maybe it's the reminder of how important community and family support are during times like these. We can only hope that someone, someday, will step forward with the key piece of information needed to solve this case. My thoughts are with everyone touched by this tragedy.
