Does anyone else feel that the plea deal for Kelvin D. Ford III feels like a bittersweet resolution? I’ve been thinking a lot about how the families, especially Shawndreaka’s, must feel with this outcome. While it’s good that some form of justice was achieved, a 15-year sentence just seems so small compared to the immense loss they’ve suffered. I know the legal system sometimes has to work within the confines of what’s possible, especially when witness testimonies are tough to secure, but it’s hard not to wish for more. My heart really goes out to Shay Bowers and the entire Lakes family. It’s a stark reminder of how the system can often leave victims’ families in a difficult place, even when it does its best within the limitations. Anyone else have thoughts on how these kinds of plea deals impact the families involved?
