I've been thinking about how during the trial, the prosecution really emphasized Carlos Young's connection to the car used in the drive-by. It’s unsettling to realize how a vehicle, something we use every day without much thought, can become a tool in a crime like this. I read that Young admitted to frequently driving the car, but he had an alibi for the day of the shooting. Still, the jury didn’t seem convinced by his argument. I can’t help but feel for Eric Rogers' family. To have to sit through a trial, reliving the worst day of their lives, and hear about these details must have been incredibly difficult. It’s clear how deeply gun violence affects not only the immediate victims but the broader community as well. It also raises questions about how much responsibility should extend to a person associated with the means to commit such a crime, like the car. Would love to hear others' thoughts on how different communities tackle such issues.

Does anyone else feel a mix of emotions hearing about the sentencing in Eric Rogers' case? I can't help but think about the toll it has taken on his family and friends, to journey through such a painful legal process and still have to confront a reality without him. Eighteen years might be a significant sentence for Carlos Young, but it doesn't bring Eric back or ease the sorrow for his loved ones. It's just so difficult to wrap my head around how gun violence has become such a prevalent issue, not just in St. Louis but everywhere. The justice system did its part, but what more can we do as a community to prevent these tragedies? Hugging my loved ones a little tighter tonight. Would love to hear how others are coping and what measures you think we can advocate for to make our neighborhoods safer.
