In the coastal city of Anacortes, Washington, 28-year-old Judith Gail Taylor was living a quiet life after a recent divorce. On December 11, 1985, she was seen by a neighbor at her apartment near Fourth and Commercial Street around 5:00 p.m.. That was the last time anyone reported seeing her. The following evening, her grandmother, Jeannette Black, stopped by for a visit but found the apartment unlocked.. The television and a space heater were running, and a full cup of coffee sat on a table, but Judith was nowhere to be found.. After leaving and returning a short time later to still find no sign of Judith, her grandmother contacted the police.. The scene inside Judith's apartment was unsettling for its sense of normalcy abruptly paused. When Judith's sister, Donamarie, entered the apartment, she found no signs of a struggle.. However, she knew her sister would never have willingly left her beloved cat alone.. Adding to the mystery, Judith's shoes were in the apartment, though her "skippers" were gone.. Her purse was also there, containing her credit cards, but her wallet, identification, and apartment key were missing.. About a week later, a significant clue surfaced when her car key was discovered in an alley roughly three blocks from her home.. Despite this, there was no indication that her vehicle was missing.. Years turned into decades with no answers in Judith's disappearance. The case grew cold, a lingering question in the Anacortes community. Then, 35 years after she vanished, a startling development emerged. In 2021, a terminally ill former neighbor of Judith's confessed to a hospital nurse and the police that he had suffocated her and disposed of her body from the Deception Pass Bridge.. He claimed he wanted to make peace with God.. This man had been interviewed during the initial investigation in 1985.. However, the prosecuting attorney determined there were some discrepancies in his confession and that it alone was not enough to prove murder beyond a reasonable doubt, so no charges were filed.. The man has since passed away, and Judith Taylor officially remains a missing person, leaving her loved ones with a painful and unresolved loss..
