Eileen Neuberger, a 40-year-old mother of two, disappeared from Manhattan, New York, on November 9, 1986. At the time she went missing, she was described as being 5'4' tall and weighing 119 pounds, with black hair and black eyes. A distinguishing physical feature was a scar on her abdomen. When she was last seen, it is believed she was wearing a black blouse, black pants, black shoes, and gold leaf earrings.
The day she vanished, Eileen had a psychiatrist's appointment that she never attended, and she did not return to her home. She left behind all of her personal belongings, including her clothing, jewelry, and money. Her husband, with whom she was in the early stages of a divorce, reported her missing three days later, on November 12, 1986.
The circumstances surrounding Eileen's disappearance were complicated. Her husband's lawyer described her as having 'fragile emotional stability' and issues with alcohol and drugs. However, concerning information about her husband later came to light. In 1988, Fred Neuberger, who was the chairman of the Wedtech Corporation, was charged with conspiracy, fraud, and grand larceny related to his work. During his trial, it was revealed that he owned an unlicensed handgun and had allegedly expressed a desire for someone to 'take care of' his wife. The purported motive was that she 'knew too much' about his illegal activities and he found the cost of her psychiatric treatments to be too high.
In the wake of Eileen's disappearance, investigators also took a brief look into the death of her husband's first wife, who had died from a gunshot wound twelve years prior in an incident that had been ruled as self-inflicted. Despite the suspicious circumstances and the allegations that surfaced during her husband's trial, Eileen Neuberger's case has never been solved.
