On January 26, 1988, Tyler Bricker, the 34-year-old first mate of the F/V Pacific Apollo, was lost at sea in the Bering Sea. While working on the deck of the 165-foot crab boat, Bricker was inside a crab pot fixing a wire tie when it was unintentionally launched into the ocean. Although he was able to escape the pot once in the water, the rough seas and strong winds hampered rescue efforts.
