Nicholas Colt Vigil, a 37-year-old man from Fortuna, California, was last seen on February 25, 2020. He left his mother’s home early that morning, saying he was going to meet a friend to pick up a check, but he never returned. Nicholas was driving his gray 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck, which was later found abandoned in Weitchpec, California, a remote area about two hours northeast of Fortuna. His truck had been left in the same spot for weeks before it was reported to authorities in mid-April. By that time, it had been broken into, and signs of tampering were evident.
Nicholas' disappearance remains mysterious. His last phone ping was near Blue Lake, an area he frequented, but checks at local casinos, including Blue Lake Casino and Bear River Casino, showed no signs of him on surveillance footage. Some speculate that his trip to Las Vegas a few days earlier, where he won a substantial amount of money, may be connected to his disappearance. Theories range from robbery to foul play linked to the area’s involvement in illegal activities, including cannabis cultivation.
Despite extensive search efforts and community rallies, no concrete leads have emerged. Nicholas’ family continues to push for answers, and a reward has been offered for information leading to his whereabouts.
