Melissa Lane, a 41-year-old woman, was last seen on June 15, 2020, in Pine Cove, California, a mountainous area near Idyllwild. According to reports, Melissa was dropped off by her cousin at the trailhead to Black Mountain Road. Although she was an avid hiker familiar with the area, it is unclear whether she had intended to hike that day, as she didn't have a cellphone or backpack with her. Melissa had a history of struggling with drug addiction but was reportedly trying to turn her life around at the time of her disappearance.
Despite her mother's attempts to report her missing immediately, police delayed accepting the report until August 5, 2020. By that time, Melissa had been missing for nearly two months. Extensive searches were conducted in the San Jacinto Mountains, but no significant evidence has been found to shed light on her whereabouts. Her disappearance remains unsolved, and she left behind two children who are still searching for answers.
