The investigation into Deidre's disappearance soon focused on Emanuel Bedford. Authorities discovered that Bedford never actually boarded a bus in Charlotte. Surveillance footage from the bus station showed him entering, canceling his ticket, and then leaving in Deidre's SUV with her. Further investigation revealed that Bedford was seen driving her car alone at a gas station in York County on the day she vanished. A significant breakthrough in the case came when Deidre Reid's Chevrolet Tahoe was found partially submerged in a pond in Aiken County, South Carolina, just days after she went missing. The vehicle was discovered approximately 11 miles from Bedford's residence in Georgia. Inside the recovered SUV, investigators found blood which DNA testing later confirmed to be Deidre Reid's.
