Jon Kevin Neff, aged 34, went missing from Altamonte Springs, Florida, on June 15, 1997. On that morning, Neff left his parents' home on Spring Lake Road to go to his job as a cook at the First Watch restaurant, located nearby. Between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., he called his workplace to inform them that he would be late, but he never arrived. Later that day, Neff also failed to pick up his daughter as planned, raising concerns among his family.
The next significant sighting of Neff came the following day when picnickers in a remote part of Seminole Forest, near the Wekiva River, spotted a man matching his description sitting in a blue 1986 Oldsmobile Calais. Though one of the witnesses considered approaching him, they ultimately decided against it. The vehicle was confirmed to belong to Neff, and it was later found locked and abandoned in the same spot. Inside, authorities discovered his pager on the front seat, but no signs of struggle or foul play were immediately evident.
An extensive search of the surrounding area yielded no clues as to Neff's whereabouts. At the time of his disappearance, Neff had been struggling with drug addiction, and there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest related to cocaine possession. While he had previously disappeared for brief periods, his prolonged absence without contacting his daughter was unusual, leading investigators to suspect that he may have met with foul play.
