Ana Maria Rodriguez, aged 34, went missing on June 29, 1999, after attending her father's funeral in Mexico. Originally from Los Angeles, California, she traveled to Tijuana for the service. When trying to return to the United States, Ana, a non-U.S. citizen, was denied re-entry. In an attempt to return home, her husband sent money to a "coyote" (human smuggler) to help her cross the border, but she never made it back.
