In the small community of Acme, Washington, a sense of unease settled in when 42-year-old Andrew Richard Eberli vanished on December 8, 2015. A father and lifelong resident of the area, he was last seen simply walking from his driveway to his home on Innis Creek Road. Concern grew when family members realized they had not had any contact with him since that day, which was unusual as he had a seven-year-old son he was in touch with. The initial search and rescue efforts launched by the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office did not locate him. A clue that emerged was the discovery of a package of his preferred brand of cigarettes, Marlboro "Fat Packs," on the shoulder of Saxon Road where it crosses the Nooksack River, but this lead did not bring investigators any closer to finding him. At the time he went missing, it was thought he might have been wearing a black cast on his left arm, but his clothing was unknown. Andrew, born on April 30, 1973, was a man deeply connected to the Acme and Bow areas where he had spent most of his life. Professionally, he worked as a certified asbestos supervisor and a foreman at local refineries. Beyond his work, he found joy in raising chickens, hunting, and spending quality time with his children, often taking them fishing and swimming at the river. Those who knew him described his greatest love as being for his kids. His sudden disappearance left a void in the lives of his parents, his son and daughters, and his brother. The weeks turned into months, and the investigation into his whereabouts remained open, leaving his family and community grappling with unanswered questions and the pain of his absence. Tragically, nearly a year after he was last seen, Andrew's remains were discovered in November 2016. It would take another year for the formal identification to be completed in December 2017, finally bringing a heartbreaking certainty to his loved ones. The family expressed their gratitude to the many people who had tirelessly searched for him. In June 2018, a celebration of life was held to honor his memory. The case of Andrew Eberli is a somber story of a father who disappeared from his own property, leading to an extensive search and a long period of uncertainty for his family. The eventual discovery, while devastating, concluded the missing person case, though the specific circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death have not been publicly detailed.
