Summary based on 1 source
On September 20, 1985, 41-year-old Carroll Lou Viau, a mother of three, was last seen in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Her last known location was in the vicinity of the Salvation Army on Cumberland Street North. At the time of her disappearance, Carroll was described as being five feet four inches tall and weighing approximately 165 pounds, though her weight was known to fluctuate. She had medium-length brown hair, which she would occasionally change the color of, and blue-green eyes. When she was last seen, she was wearing a short-sleeve top, a jean jacket, and white pants. Carroll, who was also known by the surnames Adams, Hardy, and Rogalski, had a tattoo of the name "RICH" on her left wrist.

Carroll was a voluntary patient at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital and may have been in a confused state around the time she went missing. Despite this, she was not considered to be violent. In the immediate aftermath of her disappearance, extensive ground searches were conducted by police, particularly in the area around Boulevard Lake, as she was known to frequent the north end of the city. These initial searches, however, yielded no trace of Carroll. In the year that followed her disappearance, there were several unconfirmed sightings of her between Thunder Bay and Dryden, Ontario, but none of these led to her being found.

The years have turned into decades, and the mystery of what happened to Carroll Lou Viau remains unsolved. She has had no contact with her family since the day she vanished. The Thunder Bay Police Service has revisited her case over the years, renewing calls for public assistance in the hopes that someone might come forward with information that could finally provide answers. Her disappearance left a void in the lives of her loved ones, a persistent uncertainty that has spanned over three decades. The case of Carroll Lou Viau is a somber reminder of a life interrupted, a story without an ending, and a family left waiting for a resolution that has yet to come. The investigation into her disappearance remains open.
