In the early morning hours of September 30, 2013, 21-year-old Caitlyn Avril Murray disappeared under puzzling circumstances in Quesnel, British Columbia. Surveillance footage captured her parking her car at approximately 12:45 a.m. near the Fraser Bridge Inn in West Quesnel. She was then seen walking towards the historic footbridge that spans the Fraser River. This was the last time she was ever seen. Her vehicle was later found, but her keys, phone, and other personal belongings were missing. At the time of her disappearance, Caitlyn was described as a Caucasian female, standing five feet tall and weighing 120 pounds, with a slim build, blonde hair, and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing black Lululemon pants, a blue t-shirt, and a hoodie.
Intensive searches were launched by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Search and Rescue teams, and concerned community volunteers, but no trace of Caitlyn was ever found.
The investigation revealed that prior to her disappearance, Caitlyn had sent text messages to friends that expressed distress and suicidal thoughts. However, about 45 minutes later, she sent another message stating that she was tired and heading home to sleep. This subsequent message has been a focal point for her family, who question the initial theory that she may have taken her own life. Her mother, Carmen Carr, has been a vocal advocate for her daughter, expressing her belief that other factors may have been at play in Caitlyn's disappearance.
The family has pointed to the fact that Caitlyn had recently ended an abusive relationship just two days before she went missing. Her ex-boyfriend had been charged with assault against her, which led to their breakup; however, the charges were dropped after she disappeared. This, combined with the lack of any physical evidence to support the suicide theory, has led her family to believe that foul play could be involved. Over the years, Caitlyn's case has remained open, and her family continues to hold out hope for answers. They have organized vigils and community events, including lighting the footbridge in purple, Caitlyn's favorite color, to keep her memory alive and to continue the search for information. The disappearance of Caitlyn Avril Murray is a case marked by conflicting information and a family's unwavering determination to find out what happened to their loved one. Despite the passage of time, the investigation continues, with her family and community hoping that one day they will have the closure they so desperately seek.Last Seen: Sep 30, 2013
