On a summer day in late July 2026, 44-year-old Florin Anghel Grigoriu, a resident of Kirkland, Washington, traveled to the remote and scenic Cape Flattery trailhead in Neah Bay, located on Makah Tribal Land. He had rented a vehicle in Port Angeles and arrived at the popular hiking spot on or around July 22nd. Concerns arose when it was discovered that Grigoriu was unaccounted for. His cell phone was found left behind in his rental car, and no one had been in contact with him. The Clallam County Sheriff's Office was alerted to the situation by Neah Bay Public Safety, initiating an investigation into his disappearance. Family members informed investigators that Grigoriu had been experiencing some mental health challenges recently, a detail that was also noted by local law enforcement from recent interactions.
In response to Grigoriu's disappearance, as well as that of another man who went missing in the same area days earlier, a comprehensive, multi-agency search and rescue operation was launched on July 23, 2026. The trailhead to Cape Flattery was temporarily closed to the public to facilitate the search efforts. The extensive operation involved numerous entities, including the Clallam County Sheriff's Office, Olympic National Park Service, Makah Natural Resource Enforcement, and the United States Coast Guard. Over the course of two days, ground search teams, K9 units, technical rescue personnel, marine resources, and aviation support meticulously combed the entire Cape Flattery trail system, including the rugged beaches, coves, ravines, and surrounding terrain.
Despite the exhaustive and dedicated efforts of the many agencies and volunteers involved, the search for Florin Grigoriu concluded on the evening of July 24, 2026, without any success. No trace of Grigoriu was found, and no new information or leads emerged to direct further investigative search efforts. The case remains a painful mystery for his family and loved ones.
