Karel Szabo was last heard from in April or May of 1985, when he sent his mother, who lived in Czechoslovakia, a postcard from Los Angeles, California. Karel had written about his travels to Las Vegas and San Francisco. In November 1984, Karel had informed his family that he was going to Barrie, Ontario, to get a trucking job; when in fact he travelled to the United States.
