On August 8, 1999, Mary Smith was seen for the last time as she checked herself out of the Selkirk Mental Health Centre in Selkirk, Manitoba. Prior to her disappearance, Mary had received medical treatment, for head injuries, at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg. It is out of character for Mary, a mother of four, to not contact her family.
