On Sunday April 18, 1976, Gary Michael Pinkney left his home in Fort Churchill, Manitoba, at around midday, riding his snowmobile. His destination was Hudson Bay, and he had planned to return home that same evening. The following day, April 19, at approximately 8:00 am, Helen Pinkney contacted the Churchill RCMP detachment to report that her husband had not yet returned home.
