On that day, she was reportedly seen walking, though the exact location varies in witness statements, with some mentioning the area of Oakhill Drive and Highway 551, and others recalling her on Riverside Drive. At the time she went missing, she was without her cell phone, identification, or bank cards. A formal missing persons report was officially filed with the authorities on October 7, 2024, after her family was unable to make contact with her. Juanita is described as a compassionate and kind-hearted woman who dreamed of becoming a social worker. She is a member of the M'Chigeeng First Nation and is deeply loved by her family. Physically, she is described as being 5'6" tall with a slender build, brown hair, and brown eyes. She has several distinct features, including a tattoo on her left foot of a bird carrying a ribbon that reads, "THIS TOO SHALL PASS," and another tattoo of a heart on her left ankle. The investigation into her disappearance is a joint effort between the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin (UCCM) Anishnaabe Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Despite numerous and extensive searches of the region by both law enforcement and civilian volunteers, no trace of her has been found. The circumstances surrounding Juanita's disappearance have caused significant distress for her loved ones, who fear that she may have been abducted due to her involvement in the drug world.
