In the summer of 1966, a 35-year-old Indigenous woman named Philomene Lemay vanished from the town of Slave Lake, Alberta. On the evening of August 1st, she was at a local bar, socializing with friends. At the time of her disappearance, Philomene was described as having a medium build, standing at approximately five feet three inches tall, with a dark complexion and long black hair.
