In the spring of 1996, a sense of unease began to settle over the family and friends of 67-year-old Herbert Gustave Gross. A man of routine and reliability, Herbert was last seen in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on May 3, 1996. He had plans to meet his girlfriend for lunch the following day, a simple engagement that he would uncharacteristically fail to keep.
