Her vehicle was present, but Lise was gone, leaving behind her glasses and a house key. The investigation soon focused on Lise's former boyfriend, Andrew Watson. Their relationship had ended in April 2014, but Watson had continued to harass her, tracking her movements and sending her letters. Lise had become so concerned that she reported his behavior to the police just weeks before she vanished. Ten days after her disappearance, Watson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and criminal harassment. The evidence against him was substantial. Investigators found Lise's blood on a shovel that was soaking in a bucket of bleach in Watson's home, and her DNA was also discovered in and around his SUV. Despite extensive searches by police and the public, Lise's body was never recovered. In April 2017, Andrew Watson was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Lise Fredette and sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years. Throughout his trial and even after his conviction, Watson steadfastly refused to reveal the location of Lise's remains, denying her family the closure of a proper burial. At his sentencing, the judge implored him to disclose where he had hidden her body so her family could lay her to rest, to which Watson callously replied, "No thanks." The case is a tragic story of a controlling ex-partner who, as prosecutors described, committed the "final act of harassing her." Andrew Watson died in prison in July 2022, taking the secret of Lise Fredette's final resting place with him.
