The last known sighting of Clayton was later that evening when a coworker saw him driving his taxi past the Hi-Lite Burger Bar on the Lougheed Highway in Mission. At one point, it appeared he may have had a passenger in the front seat. This brief sighting would become the last thread in a mystery that has now spanned decades. Clayton was a man of routine and responsibility. His family and friends described him as a conscientious person who would always call if he was going to be even a few minutes late. His failure to show up for his next shift at 7 a.m. was highly out of character and immediately raised alarm. When he didn't make contact, his disappearance was reported to the Abbotsford Police, and a search began. Over the years, numerous tips and supposed sightings were reported, ranging from Las Vegas to various locations throughout British Columbia, but none of these leads proved to be credible. The investigation into Clayton's disappearance has remained open, a cold case filled with unanswered questions. Neither Clayton nor his taxi has ever been found. The mystery of what happened to the quiet taxi driver on the eve of his birthday persists, leaving his loved ones with an enduring sense of loss and a search for closure that has not yet found its end.
