He had on him about $500 in cash, but his credit card and cellphone were left behind. Beric Bason is described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a thin build, weighing between 140 and 160 pounds, and having short brown hair. When he was last seen, he was wearing jeans, white running shoes, and a jacket that was possibly blue. The disappearance triggered an extensive search of the rugged terrain surrounding Loon Lake. Search and rescue teams, the RCMP helicopter, and a police service dog were all deployed to scour the area. Beric's father, Gary Bason, already mourning the loss of one son, traveled to Clinton to aid in the search for his other, bringing his two dogs to help navigate the bush. He made heartfelt pleas to the public for any information, specifically appealing to any trucker who might have given his son a ride. The family held out hope that someone had seen Beric or picked him up from the area. Despite the exhaustive efforts of search teams, who covered hundreds of miles on the ground and in the air, no trace of Beric Bason was found.
